About this book
The Heavenly Father, with the subtitle Lectures on Modern Atheism, is a book by Ernest Naville. The contents list, among others, has lectures called Our Idea of God, Life without God, The Revival Of Atheism, Nature, Humanity, The Creator and The Father. An epigraph credited to the Author's Letter to Professor Faraday says the wish is to oppose faith in God, as it has been given to the world by the Gospel, to this deplorable error.
The text asks how creatures of a day should understand the Eternal, and adds that, frail as we are, and evil, we tremble at the idea of holiness. The text asks, when the sun at his setting stretches a path of fire along the waters of our lake, who does not feel impelled to render glory to the supreme Artist. The text says prayer is a fact of the universal religion, and asks where a large part of our knowledge of the ancient civilizations of India and Egypt comes from, answering that it comes from ruins.
