About this book
The lectures consider the thinking soul as the centre of consciousness, the loving soul as the centre of moral life, and the soul’s relations to nature and God, as the contents describe them. The discussion of the thinking soul calls its activity constant, though silent, and considers it highly probable that the soul is never without conceptions.
The account of sleep applies unconscious representations to the idea that people always dream, even when their visions leave no trace in memory. The discussion of skepticism distinguishes doubt directed against freedom of the will as moral skepticism, widely diffused without scientific pretension as the fatalism of ordinary reflection.
