About this book
The History of the Assassins, Derived from Oriental Sources includes an account of religious belief that lists faith in God, angels, prophets, the day of judgment and predestination. The religious account lists ablution, prayer, fasting, alms and pilgrimage to Mecca as rites, and describes the Soonna as a collection of the prophet’s orations and oral commands.
The account credits Salaheddin with a further reign of fifteen years, campaigns in Egypt and Syria, and the capture of Jerusalem. The discussion considers whether two failed attempts restrained the Assassins from a third, or whether the order considered it necessary to preserve an enemy of the Crusaders as a counterpoise to their growing power.
