About this book

The Huddlers is by William Campbell Gault. The teaser says its subject was a reporter from Venus with an assignment on Earth, and that the reporter got his story but, against orders, fell in love. The narrator says a coagulation in the crust contained eight million of the creatures, and they called it New York. Jars and Deering divide on the huddling: Jars says fear, Deering says love, but who could say for sure?

Jean tells the narrator that the house is too old to modernize completely and that she grew up in it. The narrator was packing five minutes after a man was gone, knowing he wasn't coming back for any report. The narrator did not realize that they wanted the narrator to run, to get out where the narrator could be taken with a minimum of interference.
