About this book
All In The Mind is by Gene L. Henderson. The opening note asks "When does life begin?" and says a well-known book says "forty" and a well-known radio program says "eighty". Mel Carlson, whose strange case the opening note mentions, feels as if he were floating on clouds in the deepest, most intense dark he had ever experienced, and the last thing he can remember is the little lab hidden back in the mountains in an old mine tunnel.
Neil says "We'll never know unless we try," while Mel leans over a tank where a brain from a dog lies immersed in the life-giving liquid. A mouse stretches out and touches a relay point, and pain knifes through a brain; Mel is barely recovering from the first jolt when the mouse moves back. Someone has approximately a week in which to decide, and calling the police would be simple, but the thought of "the circus that the lab would become" is dreaded.
