About this book
The Hudson, by Wallace Bruce, is subtitled Three Centuries of History, Romance and Invention. The contents list sections called The Half Moon, Names of the Hudson, Hudson River Steamboats and Five Divisions of the Hudson, and a part headed New York to Albany. The book tells of a man who sailed from Texel on April 5, 1609, in the service of the Dutch East India Company, and who became thoroughly satisfied that this route did not lead to China.
The book records that on June 2, 1883, The Fishkill Centennial was observed. Lines signed Wallace Bruce speak to Tahawas, rising stern and grand, and say, lift thy forehead high, guard well thy sun-kissed mountain land. According to the text, scientists say that the high peaks of the Adirondacks stood alone above the waves.
