About this book

A farmer resting beside a churchyard in Chawton meets a young American visitor who is searching for Jane Austen's home. Their encounter brings an outsider's literary interest into contact with the village's daily working life. Opening in Hampshire in June 1932, this historical novel establishes a rural community where a writer's legacy remains part of the local landscape.
