About this book

The Jimmyjohns, and Other Stories is an illustrated book, and its title page lists, among others, The William Henry Letters and Lucy Maria as the author's works. Amos steered a boat to the land and pulled it up, with the Jimmyjohns pushing behind. Two men came down toward the water, and as soon as Amos saw them he ran away, for one was Mr. Plummer and the other was the umbrella-man.

A chapter called A Leaf from a Little Girl's Diary has the writer say she is going to put some things about Effie in her diary. The writer says the Jimmyjohns are her little brothers, both of them twins, just alike. Effie wanted to be dressed up in her best clothes to go up in the tree and see the sun-birds, and she thinks the tops of the trees are close up to the place where the sun is. The text shows little Nora thinking that none of these people have anything to give her for a blanket, and the servants shut the doors in her face.
