About this book

The King Country by J. H. Kerry-Nicholls is described on its title page as a narrative of 600 miles of travel through Maoriland. The preface says the introductory portion refers to the leading physical features of the part of the North Island of New Zealand known as the King Country. The preface says the introduction relates leading incidents connected with the region's history and describes the condition of the native race.

A mountain view records two small blue lakes immediately below the travellers and Ruapehu about six miles away, its glacier-bound peaks rising above a mantle of snow. An entry for Kareao describes a climbing wiry vine, often growing in entangled masses and abundant in all the forests.
