About this book
The Kingdom of the Blind is by E. Phillips Oppenheim, and in Chapter I "Lady Anselman stood in the centre of the lounge at the Ritz Hotel and with a delicately-poised forefinger counted her guests". Lady Anselman begs Major Thomson to "talk for a few more minutes to Selarne", saying "Your French is such a relief to her".
The text has a party dining "at the Dormy House Club", where "There was Granet; Geoffrey Anselman, his cousin, who played for Cambridge and rowed two; Major Harrison, whose leave had been extended another three weeks". The text describes "a slowly revolving searchlight" that "played upon the waters". The text reports "Mr. Gordon Jones has rung up from Downing Street" and "They want to know if you could step across".
