About this book
The Land We Live In, or The Story of Our Country, is by Henry Mann. The introduction says that The Story of Our Country has been often told, but cannot be told too often, and the speaker has spared no effort to make the following pages interesting as well as truthful.
A passage gives the opinion that the American Indians came from Asia, with such slight admixture as the winds and waves may have brought from Europe, Africa and Polynesia. At a meeting held in Pittsburg on the seventh of September, 1791, resolutions were adopted denouncing the tax. The resolutions include the words "It is insulting to the feelings of the people to have their vessels marked, houses painted and ransacked, to be subject to informers gaining by the occasional delinquency of others." The text calls every new railway a muscle of iron knitting together the joints of the Union, and says railways span the continent from New York to the Golden Gate.
