About this book
The Law-Breakers and Other Stories is a book of stories by Robert Grant. The contents list gives titles including Against His Judgment, St. George and the Dragon, The Romance of a Soul and An Exchange of Courtesies, among others. George Colfax is described as being in an outraged frame of mind, and properly so, and as what might be called, for lack of a better term, a passive reformer.
Mary Wellington accepts an invitation to remain and observe how the youthful mind was inoculated with the rudiments of knowledge by the honeyed processes of the modern school system. The question "Who's Jim Daly, Joe?" is met with the answer that he is the boss of the Ninth Ward. The text refers to an invasion, the coming to The Beaches of the foreign contingent, so called: people of fabulous means, multi-millionaires who were captains in one or another form of industry. A woman who had been making up her mind to put the question asks Morgan whether he is really content, and he echoes the word and adds "with you, Edna?"
