The Letters of Lord Nelson to Lady Hamilton, Volume 2, is the second volume of the surviving correspondence between Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) and Emma, Lady Hamilton (1765-1815), covering the closing years of their famous and scandalous affair from the Battle of Copenhagen in 1801 through the Trafalgar campaign and Nelson’s death aboard HMS Victory in October 1805. The letters were published in 1814 against Lady Hamilton’s wishes by a creditor who had obtained them in lieu of a debt. They record Nelson’s love for Emma and his daughter Horatia, his thoughts on naval strategy, his complaints about politicians at home, and the daily detail of a serving admiral’s life. The correspondence is a major primary source for the personal life of England’s most celebrated naval hero and for the Hamilton circle. Free PDF download available on BDeBooks.
