A Catalogue of Drawings Illustrating the Life of Gen. Washington is an exhibition catalogue of historical illustrations by Howard Pyle (1853-1911), the American illustrator, painter, and teacher who founded the Brandywine School and trained N.C. Wyeth, Maxfield Parrish, and Frank Schoonover. Pyle’s reputation rested on his sharply researched historical illustrations for Harper’s Magazine and other periodicals, and on his children’s books including The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood and Otto of the Silver Hand. The Washington catalogue gathers a selected body of Pyle’s drawings on episodes from George Washington’s life from the French and Indian War through the Revolution and the presidency. The book is a primary source for the late nineteenth-century American historical illustration tradition. Free PDF download available on BDeBooks.
