About this book
The Life and Times of the Rev. Samuel Wesley is L. Tyerman's account of Samuel Wesley and his period. One chapter is titled The Last Twenty Years, 1714 to 1735, and notes that Wesley was born two years after the restoration of Charles II and lived through the reigns of Charles, James II, William III, Queen Mary, Queen Anne and George I, and the first eight years of George II. It records that Queen Anne died in 1714 and that George, Electoral Prince of Hanover, succeeded her.
Another passage sets out what Mr Wesley believed, among it the doctrine of universal redemption, and quotes his words on God's foreknowledge and man's free agency. A passage on witchcraft and apparitions says the Bible establishes that such things have existed. A separate account describes Argyle, who sent the fiery cross from hill to hill in Scotland and gathered 2500 Highlanders before his guides betrayed him and he was made a prisoner.
