About this book
William of Germany is by Stanley Shaw, LL.D., of Trinity College Dublin, and is dated 1913. The contents list includes, among others, the chapters Youth (1859-1881), Pre-Accession Days (1881-1887) and Morocco (1905). A passage on the Emperor's family says the Emperor has four sisters and a brother, and names the brother as Prince Henry of Prussia, born in 1862.
The text says Bismarck disposes of the assertion that a Hohenzollern prince mortally stricken is not capable of succession as a fable, and adds that the Constitution contains no stipulation of the sort. One passage says that, partly owing to the growth of Germany's European influence and to the increase in her navy, Germany is to be found of recent years playing a role in the Far East. A passage naming the Hapag line and the Norddeutsche line from Bremen says the Emperor is said to have caused umbrage more than once to Court officials and the aristocracy by giving directors of both lines precedence at his table.
