About this book
The Life of John Bunyan is by Edmund Venables. The first chapter says John Bunyan was born in the parish of Elstow, in Bedfordshire, in the latter part of the year 1628. The text says the five bells which hang in the belfry are the same in which Bunyan so much delighted, and that tradition says the fourth bell is the one he was used to ring. The text says the cottage where Bunyan was born, between the two brooks in the fields at Harrowden, has been so long destroyed that even the knowledge of its site has passed away.
Bunyan is quoted as saying that between these two assizes he had by his jailer some liberty granted him more than at the first. Bunyan is quoted as saying of this period, "I followed my wonted course of preaching, taking all occasions that were put into my hand to visit the people of God." The text says the Second Part of The Pilgrim's Progress partakes of the character of almost all continuations.
