The life of Pasteur includes an account of childhood memories, including running joyously along the Aiglepierre road. Louis Pasteur was first sent to the school attached to the college of Arbois, where mutual teaching was then fashionable. The school account describes groups in which one child taught reading rudiments and the others spelled aloud in a sing-song.
The scientific account reports that thirty-four of Lister’s forty patients survived amputation between 1867 and 1869. M. Roux says an experiment demonstrates that chemical products in a culture can themselves provoke symptoms of disease. The discussion says many pathogenic microbes have been shown to manufacture toxic products.
