About this book
The Life of Samuel Taylor Coleridge is by James Gillman and carries the year 1838. The volumes are inscribed to Joseph Henry Green, Professor of Anatomy of the Royal Academy, as the honoured, faithful and beloved friend of Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The contents of Chapter I list, among others, the birth-place of Coleridge, his entrance at Christ's Hospital and Lamb's account of him when at school.
Elia remembers Lamb at school and recalls that he had some peculiar advantages which others of his schoolfellows had not. Love, a passage says, requires an absolute peace and harmony between all parts of human nature, such as it is, and is offended by any war, though the battle should be decided in favour of the worthier. One note says the writer has selected the following from among many letters written at different periods, as characteristic of the man and evincing religious, grateful, and affectionate feelings.
