About this book
Shelley at Oxford is a book by Thomas Jefferson Hogg with an introduction by R. A. Streatfeild. The introduction says that Thomas Jefferson Hogg's account of Shelley's career at Oxford first appeared in the form of a series of articles contributed to the New Monthly Magazine in 1832 and 1833. The introduction calls Thomas Jefferson Hogg's account of Shelley's career at Oxford, by common consent, the most life-like portrait of the poet left by any of his contemporaries.
The narrator says that at a very early age he had formed a splendid picture of the glories of our two Universities, and that his father took pleasure in describing his academical career. The text says that the common fruit of stalls, and oranges and apples, were always welcome to Shelley, who would crunch the latter as heartily as a schoolboy.
