About this book
The Lilac Girl is by Ralph Henry Barbour, with illustrations in color by Clarence F. Underwood. A scene at Saddle Pass has two men sitting beside a camp-fire, in a shallow notch in the lower end of the Sangre de Cristo Range in southern Colorado. In one exchange a girl asks 'Are you a miner?' and gets the answer 'No, only a prospector. We're camped up there.'
Wade pulls himself up, hesitates and says that the mine is the richest in that district and is getting better all the time. A character named Eve asks the name of the mine, and the answer is that they usually just called it The Mine.
