About this book
The Memoirs of Count Carlo Gozzi; Volume the First by Carlo Gozzi appears in an English translation by John Addington Symonds. The title page announces essays on Italian Impromptu Comedy, Gozzi's Life, The Dramatic Fables, and Pietro Longhi, written by the translator. An account describes Gozzi as having assumed, for the last five years or so, the position of titular protector to the married actress Teodora Ricci.
The family narrative says equitable judgment requires a thorough explanation of character, temperament, and circumstances. A note records no fewer than 264 petitions for divorce received by the Council of Ten between 1782 and 1796.
