The research “The Gentleman’s Mistress” looks at premarital and extramarital relationships amongst northern England’s gentry and nobles between 1450 and 1640. The book explores many topics, such as the taking of lovers, the maintenance of mistresses, the birth of illegitimate offspring, and the destiny of those children.
