About this book
Ruth Lynn, author of City Sparrows, and Who Cared for Them, opens The Mysterious Locket in the harbour of Porthmynwr, which lies in a deep cleft between high rocks, in a chapter called No Lifeboat. The book has coloured illustrations, and its chapters include Miss Silexa, The Locket Set in Pearls, The Laird of Muirstane and Lost and Found.
In one passage a woman is laid in an inner room among nets and fishing-tackle after a wreck. A gold chain and locket set in pearls round her throat holds two curls of hair and a monogram, the only token by which she might be identified. The next morning the small town of St. Elvis talks of the wreck, and in the postmistress Meg Evans's shop people ask who she could be and what will happen to the child. In another passage Lettice sits by her father, an old man who says the boat is ready.
