About this book
This is Julius Caesar from The New Hudson Shakespeare, with introduction and notes by Henry Norman Hudson, edited and revised by Ebenezer Charlton Black with the cooperation of Andrew Jackson George. The front matter reproduces the title page of North's Plutarch.
The notes discuss where the Latin phrase Et tu, Brute appears in other works of the period, including Ben Jonson's Every Man out of His Humour. They also consider a theory that Brutus's speech to the Romans in Act III, scene ii has a source in Belleforest's History of Hamlet. The play is printed with line numbers, and the text variants and editor's notes refer to those lines. One note quotes Plutarch on Cassius and on Brutus, and in a passage from Act V Cassius speaks with Pindarus and Titinius is mentioned.
