About this book
The North American Slime-Moulds, by Thomas H. Macbride, is a descriptive list of all species of Myxomycetes hitherto reported from the continent of North America, with notes on some extra-limital species. The edition is described as new and revised. The text says that nothing can be more interesting than to watch the slime-mould as its plasmodium accomplishes its last migration.
The text describes how the plasmodium may form a flat, cake-like mass, aethalium, internally divided into an indefinite number of ill-defined spore cases, sporangia, or may take the form of a simple net, plasmodiocarp, whose cords stand out like swollen veins. The text also says that from every part of the structure so described, but more especially from the margins, are given off in profusion the strange cystiferous threads, so characteristic of this genus.
