About this book

The Expositor's Bible volume on The Epistles of St. Paul to the Colossians and Philemon is by Alexander Maclaren. Among others, the contents list names sections called The Writer and the Readers, The Prelude and The Prayer. The commentary says there must be first of all peace with God, that there may be peace from God. The commentary says that Paul could only wish peace for the Colossians, that many precious things can be given but not peace, and that Jesus Christ can bestow it.

The commentary discusses the Christian’s subjection to the prescriptions and prohibitions of a religion which consists chiefly in petty rules about conduct. The commentary says we are all Christ’s Onesimuses, and that He, out of His pure love, makes Himself one with us.
