About this book
The Social Principles of Jesus is by Walter Rauschenbusch and is written for College Voluntary Study Courses. The contents list parts on the axiomatic social convictions of Jesus and the social ideal of Jesus, with chapters on The Value Of Life, The Solidarity Of The Human Family and Standing With The People. The text quotes a parable in which people who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat murmured against the householder, who answers: Friend, I do thee no wrong, didst not thou agree with me for a shilling?
A commentary on the parable says Judaism rested on legality and that the employer rises from the level of justice to the higher plane of human fellow-feeling. Under the heading Sixth Day: The Lost Leader, Peter stands up in the midst of the brethren and says that it was needful that the scripture should be fulfilled. The book also says that faith is the quality of mind which sees things before they are visible, which acts on ideals before they are real.
