About this book
The Plague, credited to Teddy Keller, is introduced with the supposition of a strictly one hundred per cent American plague that attacks only people within the political borders of the United States. Andrew McCloud ignores the jangling telephones and the excited jabber of a room full of brass, and lights a cigarette. Corporal Bettijean Baker had answered the rare call on the single line with the words Good morning, Office of the Civil Health and Germ Warfare Protection Co-ordinator.
A two-star general wails that a mysterious epidemic is sweeping the country, possibly an insidious germ attack timed to precede an all-out invasion, and that a noncom is sitting on top of the whole powder keg. Andy says that from the Senate and House on down he hasn't found a single government worker sick. A phone call from the lab says the antidote is simple and the cure should be quick.
