About this book

Best remembered for his prose, Ring Lardner was also a busy and inventive writer of comic verse, and this collection gathers the poems he scattered through newspapers, magazines, and his own books. The tone runs from gentle nonsense to sharp parody, taking aim at popular songs, sentimental poetry, and the small vanities of everyday life. Lardner had a musician's ear, and much of this work reads like lyrics waiting for a tune, full of sly rhymes and deliberately silly turns. The poems make a fine companion to his stories, showing the same quick wit in a lighter, more playful key. This free PDF and EPUB edition brings his scattered verse together in a single volume.
