About this book
Therese and Carol are at the centre of these pages. In one scene Carol asks whether Therese is tired, sets her hands on Therese's shoulders and tells her to come with her. In another, Carol takes Therese to a room with twin beds and turns down the covers. Carol talks about Richard and about Harge, and Therese feels a distant jealousy when Carol speaks of Richard.
Richard says that his Mamma wants to make Therese a dress and already has the material, and he asks whether she wants to come out tomorrow around noon. Therese pictures Mrs. Semco's embroidered blouses. Elsewhere Carol offers Therese a cigarette and tells her not to let a man find out that she can recognize him. At a restaurant Carol looks at the menu and calls out to the waiter, Walter.
