Floyd Grandon's Honor

The welcome awaiting Floyd Grandon at his riverside home is full of family calculations. His mother and sisters expect his return after years away, and their conversation turns to money, marriage and the elegant woman travelling with him. When he arrives with Madame Lepelletier and his young daughter Cecil, the household must adjust its expectations. The opening places private affection beside the demands of wealth and social position.

Amanda M. Douglas develops these tensions through a domestic romance set among the residents of Grandon Park. A later scene finds Floyd caring for his wife Violet while she recovers from an injured ankle, promising dances and theatre visits as Cecil brings news of a cake. Family conversation, small acts of kindness and shifting feelings give the novel its texture. Readers interested in American social customs will find courtship and married life viewed through the daily business of a prosperous household.
