About this book
The Promise of World Peace is a work by the Universal House of Justice. The text frames the choice as whether peace is to be reached only after unimaginable horrors precipitated by humanity’s stubborn clinging to old patterns of behaviour, or is to be embraced now by an act of consultative will. The text lists among the favourable signs the steadily growing strength of the steps towards world order, including the creation of the League of Nations, succeeded by the more broadly based United Nations Organization.
The text says unbridled nationalism, as distinguished from a sane and legitimate patriotism, must give way to a wider loyalty, to the love of humanity as a whole. The text gives Bahá’u’lláh’s statement: “The earth is but one country, and mankind its citizens.”
