About this book
The Quest is by Frederik van Eeden, in the authorized translation from the Dutch of De Kleine Johannes. The opening speaker says he will tell something about Little Johannes and his quest. The opening speaker calls the story very like a fairy tale, but says everything in it really happened.
Johannes opens his eyes wide in the middle of the dunes, and a bright little gold key lies in his tightly shut hand. A speaker tells Johannes that the veil of Maja obscures the vision of all who are created, and that we must extricate ourselves from it. A speaker asks Johannes whether ugly things ought to be retained any longer than extreme need for them demands.
