About this book
The description of Plinlimmon presents the mountain as a mass of wild bog, connected on both sides to far-spreading solitudes. The account places the fountain springs of the Severn and the Wye less than a mile apart on the long slope of Plinlimmon.
The discussion of streams in Lakeland concerns short stretches linking lake to lake, whose individual identities are described as in a sense absorbed and merged in the familiar surrounding region. Some rivers in the account are described as steeped in history and tradition, with the text crediting the waterways themselves with helping to create both. An architectural description records a recessed Norman doorway, Norman windows and arcading on a building identified as originally the Hospital of St. John the Baptist.
