About this book
The Romance of Madame Tussaud's is by John Theodore Tussaud. The preface says the earliest information concerning Madame Tussaud is that she was born in Switzerland on the 7th of December, 1760. The text says the Tussaud collection has this added interest that it sprung as it were from the revolutionary time.
The dedication of the book is to the writer's wife, through whose kindly urging the leaves have grown to the dimensions of a book. The text says that a native envoy named Huluhulu-Untato, with his companion Umfeti-Inteni, thought the figures were really dead bodies which had been preserved from decay. The text says that the meeting of the writer's father with Phineas Taylor Barnum, the great showman, was an accidental one.
