About this book

Xavier de Maistre wrote little, but what he left has kept its charm for more than two centuries. This collection gathers his short fiction, headed by the delightful 'A Journey Round My Room,' composed in 1794 while its author sat out a forty-two-day confinement after an illegal duel. Unable to leave, he turns his bedroom into a continent, strolling from armchair to writing desk and pausing to reflect on love, art, and the wandering mind. Other pieces range from tender to adventurous, including a moving portrait of a leper and a tale of prisoners in the Caucasus. This free PDF and EPUB edition collects the graceful, unhurried stories of a writer who found a whole world without leaving home.
