About this book
A Thrush, a Lark and a Nightingale gather at dusk to discuss a puzzling visitor on the tip of a rose leaf. Each wants to know where the Dewdrop came from and what it is made of. Left to conduct the first interview, the Nightingale tries song and gentle questions. The Dewdrop answers with an unexpected account of its sadness, calling itself a tear shed by the sky when the sun disappears.
John R. Macduff turns this small woodland scene into a children's allegory, giving birds, flowers and the morning light voices and personalities. A later exchange with the Thrush brings Queen Aurora and her procession into the tale. The playful conversations sit among descriptions of summer foliage, running water and changing sunlight, making this a story for readers who enjoy nature imagined as a world of talkative neighbours.
