About this book
The Story of Julia Page is by Kathleen Thompson Norris and carries a frontispiece by C. Allan Gilbert. A quoted line reads, It has never occurred to one of you to ask why I am different from other women, to ask just what made me so! Chapter I describes Emeline, wife of George Page, to whom there came slowly, in her thirtieth year, a sullen conviction that life was monstrously unfair. The text says Emeline's mind went back to the days of her pert, precocious childhood and her restless and discontented girlhood.
The text describes poker parties occasionally held in the Page flat, with seven or eight players about the round table. Jim, in his club, sunk in a deep chair before the wood fire in the quiet library, goes on to say that if they marry, they must simply make up their minds that the past is dead. Mrs. Chancellor commands brightly, Go have a talk with her. Finish it up, one way or another.
