About this book
Rudyard Kipling wrote The Story of the Gadsbys. The contents list names pieces titled “Poor Dear Mamma”, “The Tents of Kedar” and “The Swelling of Jordan”, among others. The preface is addressed to Captain J. Mafflin and says the letter writer wrote this story as an Awful Warning.
In one scene, Captain Gadsby greets Miss Threegan, who answers him and asks, “Won't you have some tea?” A speaker tells Jack he hopes Jack will never know the shame he has been going through for the past six months. Mrs. G. asks Phil to tell her again what made him care for her, and Capt. G. replies, “How could I help it?”
