About this book
The Strange Career of the Chevalier D'Eon De Beaumont is by J. Buchan Telfer. The book presents the chevalier D’Eon de Beaumont as minister plenipotentiary from France to Great Britain in 1763. The summary of Chapter I lists, among other points, the birth of D’Eon de Beaumont and registry as a male-child, and being consecrated to the Virgin Mary and admitted to the Sisterhood.
The text says that when D’Eon again made his appearance at St. Petersburg, Douglas was simply delighted and wrote to M. Rouillé that he was very greatly pleased at the arrival of M. D’Eon. The text states that the Treaty of Versailles (May 1, 1756) had placed Douglas and Count Esterhazy upon an entirely new footing.
