About this book
The War of Chupas is credited to Pedro de Cieza de León. A decree in the text says that, as each of the Audiencias is to have four Judges, all four shall sit in suits for five hundred pesos de oro and upwards. A decree in the text says that, for a suit of less than five hundred pesos, two votes in complete agreement shall suffice.
The Marquis, with a brave spirit, is described throwing off a long purple robe, putting on a breast-plate or two in his dressing room, and taking up the broad-sword he had used in his expeditions, drawing it out of its sheath and exclaiming "Come along, my good sword, companion of my labours!" Vaca de Castro retorted by casting contempt on what had been done, and, after some further talk, took leave of the prisoners, saying that, notwithstanding they were all condemned to death by the general sentence, he desired that they should beg him for justice.
