About this book
The Woman Who Dared is by Epes Sargent. A motto credited to John Milton says that honest liberty is the greatest foe to dishonest license. The text says that our Linda had seen sixteen summers and grown to be a fair-haired, winsome maid, promising to be a softened repetition of her mother.
A female figure might be seen to enter a lodging-house, pass up two flights and unlock a door that showed a small apartment with two windows looking on the rear, a low, narrow bed, a sofa, a piano, and three chairs. The text asks, if the remedy lies with woman herself, as all admit, how we can expect her to act efficiently until she is a modifying force in legislation. The text quotes J. A. St. John as saying that the most absurd notions have prevailed on the subject of matrimony.
