A chance meeting with a woman in distress draws him into spying, danger, and divided loyalties as the Highland army pushes toward London and then falls back. Told in Oliver's own plainspoken voice, the book mixes swordplay and narrow escapes with a slow-burning romance and a countryman's eye for the ordinary people caught between king and pretender.
