About this book

Thorns of Regret is by Mrs. Alex. McVeigh Miller. Under the heading CHAPTER VI. THE WORST FATE THAT COULD BEFALL, the text says that Delmar had indeed avenged himself, and that through Maisie he had pierced the hearts of those who had wronged him. A character named Byrd calls his younger brother to account in the library, where Maisie, crouching in a concealment she chose unwisely, hears every word.

Josephine is shown scattering money like water in all the shops and loading herself with jewels and finery until Mrs. French asks her ironically why she does not buy out a whole shop at once. Under the heading CHAPTER VIII. GIVE ME MY RELEASE, the text has Maisie reach her own room, where her young husband comes to her crying out that he has just a few minutes left to say good-by. The text compares a young man who flung himself out into the moonlight to a stripling of yesterday, a youth of one and twenty, who had become an old man in an hour.
