About this book
Time and Change is a book by John Burroughs. The contents list names, among others, The Long Road, The Divine Abyss, The Spell of the Yosemite, Through the Eyes of the Geologist and Holidays in Hawaii. The preface says the author fears there is more of the matter of hard science and of scientific speculation in this collection than of spiritual and aesthetic nutriment.
The text has the great mechanical forces say, “Give us time,” and promise to show the immobile rocks and rigid mountain chains as flexible as a piece of leather. The text says mosquitoes, as well as flies and vermin, are not native to the island, and that they came in ships not very long ago. The writer describes seeing a logcock, or pileated woodpecker, a rare bird anywhere, which he had never seen before on the old farm.
