About this book
To Alaska for Gold, or The Fortune Hunters of the Yukon, is by Edward Stratemeyer. Randy, mending buttons on one of Earl's working shirts, muses that they have just twenty-eight dollars and a half in cash left. A letter from Uncle Foster says that he is going back to Alaska, to some new gold field that has just been discovered there, and asks whether the brothers will go with him.
Captain Zoss roars "Hold her! hold her!" to Earl, and the next instant is in the icy water up to his waist. One of the miners asks to be taken care of, saying they have over a thousand dollars in gold dust and ten thousand in dust and nuggets hidden up at the camp, and Foster Portney replies sadly that their money won't count up here but that he is willing to share what he has. A vote is taken, and the miners remain, which makes two more mouths to feed out of their scanty store.
