About this book
The Phantom of the River is a sequel to Shod with Silence by Edward S. Ellis. The contents list chapters called Longing for Night, The Cawing of a Crow, Daring and Delicate Work, At Rattlesnake Gulch and Simon Kenton in a Panic.
Kenton asks Dan'l what he makes of it, and the reply is that them Shawanoes are keeping track of every movement of the folks behind us, and we can't hinder' em. Jethro Juggens decides that the toughness of the sheets makes them preferable to the softer and more yielding blankets, and draws forth six of them. A ranger leans his rifle against a tree and muses that the parson is the best man in the world, since there ain't another white man that dare go visitin' 'mong the varmints like him.
