About this book
Travels in Turkey and Back to England is a book by Edmund Chishull. The book is by the late Reverend and Learned Edmund Chishull, B. D., Chaplain to the Factory of the Worshipful Turkey Company at Smyrna. The preface says no books are generally more entertaining and instructive than the accounts of travels into foreign countries, and especially those which are written in the way of Journals.
The index describes Bozok as a Turkish drink, calls Buda the metropolis of Hungary, and gives Bucurest as a town in Valachia whose streets are floored with plank, among other entries. An entry dated April xxvii says the writer visited the press of this place, where some pieces of devotion in Arabic were being printed under the care of the Patriarch of Antioch to be distributed by him about his diocese. A description of a city says no house has any doors to the sea, but the entrance is at large gates, which front so many streets of the city, placed at equal distances.
