About this book
True Heart/Mind is an inscription attributed to Sengcan, Third Chinese Patriarch of Zen Buddhism (ca 600 AD), in a translation by Bruce R. Linnell, PhD (2011). A comment by the translator says the title could mean any of several things, among others Belief in (the) Mind, The Believing Mind and Trust in (the) Mind. The translator says True Mind was chosen because the entire inscription discusses how to get back to the original Buddha nature we all have (but have forgotten).
The translator states a goal to include every Chinese symbol in the English sentence, using an exact translation of each symbol, and with minimal additional words and paraphrasing. The text says the essence of the Great Way is vast, with nothing easy and nothing difficult, and that attachments lead to loss of inner freedom.
